DIGITAL MARKETING / A PRACTICAL ANSWER
When should you pause an underperforming campaign?
The short answer
Pause or limit a campaign when continuing would spend money on a known failure, an unavailable offer or data you cannot responsibly interpret. A weak early result is not automatically proof that a channel is unsuitable. Separate operational problems from the normal uncertainty involved in testing an offer.

What to define
Check delivery, destination availability, targeting and measurement before changing the creative. Confirm that the sales or fulfilment team can handle responses and that the campaign still describes the actual offer. Investigate unexpected spend or an influx of clearly unsuitable enquiries.
How to evaluate it
Use agreed review rules rather than reacting to every daily fluctuation. Record what changed and why, then verify the fix before resuming. If the hypothesis itself has failed, consider revising the offer or audience instead of endlessly adjusting presentation.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE / NOT A CLIENT RESULT
Make it concrete.
A campaign should not continue sending visitors to a registration page after its capacity is exhausted. A different situation is a working campaign with limited early data; that may require further observation rather than an immediate redesign.
Before you commission
- Check confirmed failures and offer availability.
- Apply the agreed review and escalation rules.
- Verify a correction before restoring spend.
