AI CONSULTING & AUTOMATION / A PRACTICAL ANSWER
How do you estimate the practical value of an AI workflow?
The short answer
Estimate an AI workflow's value by comparing the useful outcome and total operating effort with the current method. Include preparation, review, correction, maintenance and provider costs. Faster generation alone does not establish a return, and assumed time savings do not automatically become cash savings for the business.

What to establish
Record a baseline from representative work and state the assumptions behind any forecast. Distinguish capacity released, quality improvements and costs that can actually change. Account for exceptions and for work that moves to another team rather than disappearing.
How to assess readiness
Use a range of plausible inputs to see which assumptions determine the decision. Validate those assumptions during a pilot and update the model with observed effort. Avoid presenting an attractive estimate as a guaranteed financial result or ignoring the cost of human oversight.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE / NOT A CLIENT RESULT
Make it concrete.
If a draft is produced quickly but requires extensive correction, the workflow may offer little benefit. If it releases reliable capacity for a constrained team, the business still needs a plan for using that capacity productively.
Before you commission
- Measure the current and proposed total effort.
- Separate capacity gains from realised savings.
- Test sensitive assumptions and update the model.
