What should an AI automation handover include?

  • AI
  • workflow ownership

The short answer

An AI automation handover should let the receiving team operate, evaluate, pause and change the workflow without depending on undocumented knowledge. Explain the task and its limits, not just the technical components. Ownership, access, monitoring and the fallback need to be as clear as the normal demonstration path.

What to establish

Deliver a workflow map, account and permission register, source-data requirements and evaluation examples. Record where instructions or configuration live and who may update them. Include known failure cases and the route for escalating uncertain or consequential outputs.

How to assess readiness

Demonstrate ordinary operation and a controlled failure with the receiving team. Agree provider billing, support boundaries and change responsibilities. A handover is incomplete if the business cannot identify who notices a problem or how to stop further actions.

Make it concrete.

A team inheriting a document assistant should know how to retire an outdated source, investigate an incorrect answer and restore a manual process. A video of the successful demonstration alone would not provide that operating capability.

Before you commission

  • Transfer ownership, access and workflow documentation.
  • Include evaluation examples and known failure cases.
